New in 2020, the Rock and Ice is our most eclectic and adventurous introduction to summer-focused mountaineering. The 4-day course covers the range of skills needed for traversing the Southern Alps during summer, below the firn line (glacial snow line). The focus is on climbing and moving on hard ice and rock. This course runs from November to April. It is a perfect extension to our winter Mountain Skills Course.
We are based in Mount Cook village, with NZ's biggest mountains at our door. We will use the best weather of the trip to *camp overnight* on the amazing white ice of the Tasman Glacier, using an exciting helicopter flight in and out.
The Rock and Ice course will equip you with the skills needed to prepare for your own trips and to travel safely in the mountains. It's also just a fantastic tase of mountaineering for those looking for a one-off adventure.
